Migrant Mobile Learning Lab
Quality education is the key to upward mobility. A quality education is even more necessary for children who move from state-to-state with their parents who are seasonal farm workers, to quickly harvest and process crops before they spoil in the fields. According to the U.S. Department of Education more than 300,000 of these children find themselves struggling to keep up with the expectations of school systems designed for students who stay in their community for the full duration of each school year.
The goal of the Migrant Education Program is to ensure that the children of migrant farm workers reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment. Program funds support high quality education programs for migratory children and help ensure that migratory children who move among the states are not penalized in any manner by disparities among states in curriculum, graduation requirements, or state academic content and student academic achievement standards.
We need your help! In April of this school year we are hoping to launch a Mobile Learning Lab that allows us to meet the educational and social emotional needs of the children of migrant farmworkers where they reside and in some instances where they work.
We need your support to complete the construction of this unit. Additional funds are needed to design and apply the exterior graphics to make the unit a “cool” place to learn, funds for long term upkeep, and funds for extra expenses not allowable or covered by the program grant.
