Executive Director Named for South Bend Education Foundation

South Bend, Ind. — Steve Funk has been named executive director of the South Bend Education
Foundation. The appointment was approved by the South Bend Community School Corporation and the South Bend Education Foundation boards in August. Funk began his role on August 16.

The South Bend Education Foundation exists to advocate, promote, and fund initiatives to enrich
learning experiences for the students and staff of the SBCSC. Initiatives include funding teacher grants, educational programs, professional development, and projects in the South Bend public schools.

“The board is thrilled to begin a new chapter with Steve leading the Foundation’s efforts,” says South Bend Education Foundation Board President Julie Curtis. “The Foundation’s work is vital to bridge the gap in funding needed to provide opportunities for all South Bend Schools students and resources to support our dedicated teachers. Steve’s leadership and experience will support a successful relationship between the Foundation and the South Bend Schools.”

“I am honored and humbled to take on this important role in our community,” says Funk. “I had
previously served two terms on the Foundation Board and as I moved through the interview process, I knew that this was the opportunity I had been looking for to make a difference in our community.
Nothing is more important than the investment in our children’s education. I cannot express enough my appreciation to Julie Curtis, Dr. Cummings, and the Boards of the Education Foundation and the Schools for giving me this opportunity to fulfill a calling to help strengthen our education system by growing the funding that is so critically needed.”

Funk previously served as associate general manager and vice president of development and marketing for PBS MICHIANA-WNIT. Prior to that, Funk was vice president and general manager of the South Bend Tribune.
